Two Answers to One Question
After The Last Terminal, the receiving team had accepted her unresolved case. A reviewer found the disputed field, corrected it, and closed the request. On the central terminal, everything now looked right.
The gate had a different answer. Its small display offered the same suspended status she had carried through the old system. A station attendant checked the reference and turned his screen toward her. His copy was dated the previous evening.
The Quiet Interval
The attendant could not change the central record, and the central reviewer could not see which version the gate was using. Each could demonstrate that their own screen was functioning. Neither demonstration let Mara board.
On the wall, a timetable counted down to the last connection. The network called the interval synchronization. Mara experienced it as another missed shift.
She asked the attendant to record the gate identifier and the time of the refusal against the existing case. She did not need another reference that described the same problem as new. She needed the correction to reach the place where the decision was being enforced.
A Smaller, Truer Status
The receiving team reopened the completion check. Its new note distinguished the accepted correction from delivery to the station. A second line named the team responsible for the delayed copy and the time of the next check.
The attendant followed the station’s authorized temporary-access procedure. He did not erase the refusal or pretend that the network had caught up. The exception and the unfinished repair remained visible as different events.
Beyond the Original Record
At 19:31, the gate accepted the credential. The team recorded that result before closing the check. The central edit had been necessary. It had not been the entire correction.
