FIELD RECORD: On the next evening, the gate opened before Mara finished raising her wrist. No warning. No delay. The station had finally become ordinary again.
This is original systems fiction set in Clandestinia, not a report about a real transit service or an account of anyone’s legal entitlement.
The Green Line
In The Second Copy, the corrected credential reached the gate after a delay. The receiving team verified the result and closed the technical check. Its record now contained a green line: access restored.
Mara’s work roster contained an empty square. The route had reopened too late for the shift she was trying to reach. A second journey and an afternoon at the terminal had consumed the time she would normally spend elsewhere.
Outside the Repair
The reviewer could confirm that the credential worked. She could not change the roster or decide what another institution owed Mara. Her form offered two choices: resolved or failed.
Neither described the case. Calling the repair failed would erase a real improvement. Calling everything resolved would erase the reason Mara had come back.
The reviewer opened a separate consequence note. It distinguished the refusal recorded by the station from the missed shift Mara reported. It also recorded what had not been established. Mara did not have to surrender her entire work history to explain one empty square.
A Claim With a Destination
The note did not promise compensation. It named the office authorized to consider the remaining request, the material being transferred, and the date on which receipt would be checked. Mara could see what the reviewer knew and what she was only passing on.
For once, a limit appeared as a limit rather than a completed task.
Two Endings
The technical repair stayed closed. The consequence review stayed open. They shared a reference, but no longer borrowed each other’s status.
