Gray corridors are spaces where formal authority and practical authority do not fully overlap. They appear in payment processors, residency rules, platform moderation, customs procedures, banking compliance, registrar policies, insurance exclusions, and identity verification systems.
A soft jurisdiction is not lawless. It is over-procedural. The operator is not stopped by a guard at a gate, but by an intake form, a frozen ticket, a compliance queue, or a missing code sent to a number that no longer exists.
Three Signals
Administrative opacity: when rules exist but the decision path is invisible.
Delegated enforcement: when private platforms enforce public-like constraints without public-like accountability.
Identity bottlenecks: when one credential, address, device, or bank account becomes the hinge for multiple unrelated systems.
Countermeasure
Keep clean records, redundant credentials, documented ownership, and jurisdictionally diverse recovery paths. The goal is not evasion. The goal is continuity when procedure becomes terrain.
