OBJECTIVE: Trace a cancellation through its dependent work. Use paper records or an authorized isolated test environment with synthetic recipients. Do not cancel real appointments, send real reminders or interfere with production queues.
1. Define Two Bookings
Create fictional bookings A and B for the same synthetic participant, each with its own reference. Give A a queued reminder and an attendance entry. B is a separate valid appointment that must remain unchanged.
Define the test expectation: cancelling A stops its future reminder and prevents its attendance entry from creating a no-show consequence. The exercise must retain an explainable history rather than erase the booking.
2. Cancel Before Dispatch
Record the cancellation of A after its reminder has been queued but before simulated delivery. Advance the model and check whether the queue honors the changed state.
Inspect the attendance entry separately. Stopping a message does not prove that another dependent action has stopped. Record evidence for each expected outcome and verify that B still has its original schedule.
3. Model a Notice Already Delivered
Reset the synthetic scenario and place cancellation after simulated reminder delivery. The model cannot truthfully say that no notice was sent. Instead, define a clarification step and retain the earlier message as part of the history.
Give any unresolved attendance consequence an owner and a review checkpoint. Test the participant-facing wording: it should name A, identify the current instruction and avoid accidentally withdrawing B.
4. Inspect the Completion Claim
Ask another reviewer to compare the booking, queue, attendance entry and clarification record. Can they distinguish cancellation requested from cancellation accepted and dependent work reconciled?
Completion criterion: the intended consequences of A are stopped or explicitly accounted for, B remains unchanged, and the record supports the wording shown to the participant. Mark unresolved effects as unresolved rather than treating an updated status as sufficient proof.
